SCOTT DARRAGH

Scott Darragh has been an economist with the Office of Revenue and Tax Analysis (ORTA) in the Michigan Department of Treasury since 1999.  His work includes providing revenue and legislative analyses on many parts of Michigan’s tax system.  Prior to ORTA, Scott worked as a tax policy advisor for the Michigan House of Representatives and as a pension analyst for two Detroit-area benefit consulting firms.  From 2004 through 2012, Scott was an adjunct lecturer in economics at the University of Michigan – Flint where he taught more than thirty courses.  In 2014, Scott was elected to the Board of Education for St. Johns Public Schools and he now serves as the Board President. He received his B.A. from the University of Michigan - Dearborn, M.A. from Wayne State University, and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.  Scott and his wife Kendel have two daughters, ages 15 and 9.


MARTIN LAVELLE

Martin Lavelle is a business economist in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Detroit Branch.  Martin’s job responsibilities include economic research, education, and outreach.  His research revolves around the Michigan economy and its impact on the Seventh District and national economies, respectively.  Specific topics include the auto industry, consumer spending, business activity, state & local government finances, as well as working on the Seventh District’s contribution to the Beige Book.  Mr. Lavelle has contributed numerous Fed Letters, summarizing various conference findings, in addition to his own research interests.    He has also written numerous articles for the Michigan and Midwest blogs, respectively.  Mr. Lavelle served on the Detroit Post-Bankruptcy Working Group, updating policymakers and advisors on economic developments.  In addition, he speaks to economics classes at area colleges and high schools.  In addition to his Federal Reserve work, Mr. Lavelle has taught managerial economics at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and volunteered with Junior Achievement, teaching high school students about entrepreneurship.  Lavelle received his B.S. in Business and M.A. in Economics from Miami University in Oxford, OH.
