  • Athens State Partners with IMA Muscle Shoals Chapter for New Scholarship!

    Athens State is pleased to announce the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Muscle Shoals Chapter Distinguished Accounting Scholarship, a newly endowed $25,000 scholarship created to support students who demonstrate excellence and engagement through our active IMA student chapter (the Accounting Club).

    This meaningful investment was made possible through the longtime service of faculty members Dr. Diann Hammon and Dr. Stacie Hughes on the IMA Muscle Shoals Chapter Board, along with valuable support from the Athens State Foundation.

    The scholarship will begin awarding this fall and is open to both undergraduate and graduate accounting students who:

    • Are enrolled in at least six credit hours
    • Are Accounting majors or enrolled in the Master of Accountancy program
    • Are members of the Athens State IMA Student Chapter (Accounting Club)
    • Are in good academic standing
    • Have completed at least one semester at Athens State, with a preference for having completed at least six credit hours

    Students can apply through the Foundation Scholarship application for this new award.

    Presenter: Elena Klevsky (University of Tampa)

    How would you like to become one of those lucky accountants who just seems to have useful information fall into their hands with abnormally high frequency and who does the right thing with this information to obtain desirable professional outcomes? The secret to becoming this lucky accountant is developing a serendipity mindset--that is, the mental toolkit needed to successfully navigate the serendipity process, which involves encountering, processing, and acting upon unsought information. 

     

    In this presentation, Dr. Elena Klevsky – author of serendipity research published in Fraud Magazine and Issues in Accounting Education – will help you develop a serendipity mindset by teaching you what serendipity is, how it works, and best practices for increasing your serendipity. After learning the theory behind serendipity, you will have the opportunity to reflect upon your own successful and failed attempts to navigate the serendipity process and identify your areas for improvement. Ultimately, the purpose of this presentation is to help you develop a serendipity mindset that you can use to add value to your organization.
