IS THIS AS GOOD AS IT GETS? THE 2019 ECONOMIC OUTLOOK

Scott Darragh, Economist, State of Michigan Department of Treasury

 

He returns with an update of the State of Michigan’s economy.  Is this as good as it gets?

 

Scott Darragh has been an economist with the Office of Revenue and Tax Analysis (ORTA) in the Michigan Department of Treasury since 1999.  His work includes providing revenue and legislative analyses on many parts of Michigan’s tax system, focusing on the individual income, sales, use, and tobacco taxes.  Prior to ORTA, Scott worked as a tax policy advisor for the Michigan House of Representatives and as a pension analyst for two Detroit-area benefit consulting firms.  From 2004 through 2012, Scott was an adjunct lecturer in economics at the University of Michigan – Flint where he taught more than thirty courses. Scott received his B.A. from the University of Michigan - Dearborn, M.A. from Wayne State University, and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.  Scott and his wife Kendel have two daughters, ages 16 and 10.

What are the roles and effects of data analytics on internal audit? As data becomes more important and prevalent in today’s business climate, what are some of the trends in this landscape that internal audit should be aware of? We will highlight analytic opportunities in the audit lifecycle and provide a roadmap for embedding analytics within an audit. We will also cover various tools and technologies that can be used throughout this process.

 

Patti Motylinski is a Digital Risk Solutions Manager (PwC) in the Risk Assurance practice based in Detroit with 15 years of experience in data analytics, Computer Assisted Audit Techniques, and data visualization. Prior to joining DRS, Patti worked in Internal Audit for several Fortune 500 Manufacturers. Patti focuses on Data Analytics to facilitate External and Internal Audit engagements as well as Data Visualization tools. Her experience includes analytics over purchase-to-pay, vendor master analytics, travel and entertainment, and risk assessment processes.

 

Patti is a Certified Information Systems Auditor and received a BS in Accountancy from Michigan State University and an MBA from Ohio State University.  

 

Nicholas Lemanski, is a Digital Risk Solutions Senior Associate in the Risk Assurance practice based in Detroit, with 4 years of experience in Analytics, Computer Assisted Audit Techniques, and Data Visualization. Nicholas joined PwC in 2015 after graduating from John Carroll University. Nicholas spends most of his time working on Data Analytics for Internal and External Audit clients, but has experience working on Accounting/Finance Change engagements, including System Implementations, ASC 842 Lease Accounting Updates, and System Logic Recreation.

 

Nicholas received a BSBA in Marketing and Logistics from John Carroll University.
